Abstract
Purpose: This study aims to collect the essential data required to support the activation of the self-help groups by analyzing the actual experiences and changes of suicide-bereaved family members who participated in them.

Method: This study was conducted on 35 bereaved families in 2019 who participated in the Jajaknamu Maumeum1080 camp of the Seoul Suicide Prevention Center. Participants at the camp were divided into six self-help groups based on their relationship to the deceased and engaged in approximately an hour of open discussion. The textual data generated by recording and transcribing six group discussions was analyzed using qualitative data analysis consisting of open coding, categorization, and category confirmation. The final result was described based on the codebook derived from this procedure.

Result: Self-confession that explained participants' experiences and interactions that connected them made up the self-help group. The participants discussed the challenges brought on by family suicide, and built relationships and strengthened their will to live through interactions with others. Additionally, the self-help group participation was expanded to include others and society at large by exchanging aid and advice. Because the challenges varied by the relationship with the deceased, the usefulness of self-help groups based on the relationship with the deceased was brought up.

Conclusion: Self-help groups assist prevent suicide and help suicide-bereaved families recover to their daily lives. Making self-help groups more accessible, building support systems adapted to each deceased group, and offering self-group participants the chance to help other bereaved families are three areas for improving self-help groups.
